A new Russian ambassador

It was reported on the radio yesterday that Chernomyrdin is being replaced by another ambassador. This might be something routine but it could mean something. Chernomyrdin was a moderate Russian voice during the revolution. Could signal some sort of change.

UPDATE: Looks like this wasn't the case after all. Thanks to the those in the comments who posted the info.

Lavrov says Chernomyrdin remains RF ambassador in Kiev.

KIEV, February 21 (Itar-Tass) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Viktor Chernomyrdin will remain on his post of Russia’s ambassador to Ukraine.

After his talks in Kiev on Monday Lavrov said, “Viktor Chernomyrdin is robust and feels fit. I wish him health and success on this post.”

Commenting on Ukraine’s possible accession to the European Union, Lavrov stressed that Russia “respects any country’s sovereignty and partners’ sovereign choice.”
